Guardianships
A guardianship is a court proceeding to appoint someone to provide the
care for a minor, to manage the
assets of a minor, or both. Once a minor attains the age of majority, the
guardianship is terminated. If the guardian is managing assets for the
minor, known as a guardianship of the estate, the guardian must periodically
account to the court. Typically, guardianships are necessary when a
minor's parents cannot care for their child, either due to death, incapacity, or
incarceration. Guardianships are occasionally initiated when a natural
parent fails to provide proper care for a child.
Guardianship proceedings are conducted in probate court.
Mr. Jones represents guardians and potential guardians in all aspects of
guardianship proceedings and works closely with guardians to ensure that
they are meeting their fiduciary obligations to the wards (minors).
